SAM was established as a joint venture to carry out total avionics related manufacturing, support, sales and services to cater in the Malaysian and regional market.
The shareholders in the company are :
MALAYSIAN HELICOPTER SERVICES BERHAD : 25%
AIROD SDN BHD : 25%
THE INDUSTRIALIZATION FUND FOR DEVELOPING COUNTRIES : 22.5%
SCANDINAVIAN AVIONICS A/S OF DENMARK : 27.5%
The European based partners will help ensure effective transfer of technology and provide their Malaysian counterparts with the technical support when required.
The joint venture agreement was signed on 15th December 1993 and the workshop which is based at the Airod Complex in the Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport at Subang began operation in September 1994. Apart from the avionics-related sectors of business, SAM is involved in various special projects, which include the supply of side looking airborne radar to the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment and Flight tracking system (GP&C) based on the satellite technology.
